Keio University, established in 1858 and based in Tokyo, is Japan's first private university. The institution encompasses five major campuses in Japan. It works with affiliated organizations near the campuses. It also operates a high school in New York. Mita is Keio University's main campus. It houses the Business & Commerce, Economics, Law & Political Science, and Letters departments. The Mita campus serves approximately 12,000 students. The Hiyoshi campus, established in 1934, serves 11,000 students. It primarily houses undergraduate programs. Media design and system design graduate colleges were opened on the campus in 2008. Hiyoshi also includes the Keio Senior High School and Futsubu Boys Junior High School. The Shinanomachi campus includes the Keio School of Medicine, established in 1917, and Keio University Hospital, founded in 1920. The International Center, established in 1964, promotes international business relations. The Organization for Global Initiatives (OGI), established in 2005, allows the university to establish global alliances. Keio University was founded by Yukichi Fukuzawa.
