The business was launched in 2002, with The Carphone Warehouse Group's acquisition of Opal Telecom. A residential landline service was launched in 2003. Broadband services were introduced in 2004. In the same year, the firm expanded operations into Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. TalkTalk Telecom acquired Onetel and Tele2 in 2005, expanding its customer base to 2.5 million people. The firm introduced free broadband services in 2006. In the same year, The Carphone Warehouse Group acquired the U.K. customer base of AOL's Internet access unit, expanding TalkTalk Telecom's residential broadband operations. TalkTalk Telecom provides customers with domestic, international, and mobile communications services. The firm also sells broadband accessories and landline telephones. It provides customers with subscription-based online backup, security, and privacy services. TalkTalk Telecom has won recognition from uSwitch.
