JDS Uniphase was incorporated in Denver in 1993. The company is the product of several mergers and acquisitions. It acquired Optical Coating Laboratories Incorporated (OCLI) and E-TEK Dynamics Incorporated in 2000, as well as SDL Incorporated in 2001. JDS Uniphase fiber optic communications systems are the largest part of its business. JDS Uniphase's JDS Uniphase Instrumentation unit offers customers optical component test and measurement components. The JDS Uniphase Commercial Lasers unit sells lasers that support biotechnology, semiconductor, and other processing demands. JDS Uniphase's OCLI and Flex Products subsidiaries offer Optical Variable Pigment (OVP) products. The company maintains manufacturing plants across the U.S. and Canada. It also has plants in Germany, The Netherlands, the U.K., Australia, and China. JDS Uniphase plans to pursue additional mergers and acquisitions.
