I3C (Interoperable Informatics Infrastructure Consortium) is a nonprofit consortium focused on interoperability among biotech and pharmaceutical research products. Its mission is to ease research and development in these fields. The group was founded in 2001 by life science and technology groups such as the National Cancer Institute and Sun Microsystems. Its members now include Oracle, Merck, Sanger Institute, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, TimeLogic, and Blackstone. The membership organization is led by a general board of directors and the Science & Technology Board. I3C has worked on projects such as Life Science Identifiers (LSID), a protein data bank, and the HapMap Project. Its LSID, released in mid 2003, is the first Web service standard for life sciences. I3C (Interoperable Informatics Infrastructure Consortium) is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
