The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which encompasses a wide range of government agencies, focuses on detecting, preventing, and responding to terrorist and other security threats. The department includes the Border and Transportation Security, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Science and Technology, and Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection directorates. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security encompasses the U.S. Customs Service, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), the Transportation Security Administration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Environmental Measurements Laboratory, the Secret Service, the Coast Guard, and many other agencies. The department's Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection directorate will handle information collected by the CIA, FBI, DIA, and NSA.
