Kawasaki Microelectronics Incorporated (K-Micro), based in Makuhari, Japan, develops application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). The components are used in communications, image processing, office automation, and other systems. The firm also provides technology developers with USB application-specific standard product (ASSP) networking and driver systems. The company is known for its Samurai SerDes (TM) and PCI Express technologies. K-Micro, established as a Kawasaki Steel Corporation division in 1990, was spun off from that company in 2001. In 2002, Kawasaki Steel and NKK merged, forming JFE Holdings Incorporated. K-Micro is a wholly owned subsidiary of the new firm. K-Micro maintains design centers in India, the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and Israel. The firm has earned ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
