University of California (UC) Davis Cancer Center, based in Sacramento, California, is a leading clinical and research organization that serves over 9,000 adult and child patients annually. It collaborates with UC Davis Medical Center and UC Davis Children's Hospital in providing clinical care to patients. A clinical trials program offers patients new drugs and treatments. The organization conducts 150 adult and 50 pediatric clinical trials per year. The center has marrow transplant, breast, colorectal, eye, radiation oncology, urologic, and other cancer treatment programs. Physicians, nurses, social workers, interpreters, and other health care professionals work with clients. UC Davis Cancer Center's research program is driven by 300 scientists. Researchers include light physicists, biomedical engineers, and oncologists. Scientists have developed breast cancer scans; leukemia, prostate, and neurologic cancer treatment agents; ovarian cancer detection tests; and cancer diagnosis biophotonics technologies. UC Davis Cancer Center has formed a research partnership with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The research center earned a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation in 2002.
